Rodent Control in South Brunswick, NJ
Trapping, entry-point sealing and follow-up monitoring for South Brunswick homes and businesses. Free inspection, written quote.
Garage and Foundation Sealing
The attached garage is the most reliable autumn mouse entry in South Brunswick housing. A real door seal and corner gaskets stop more mice than any product.
We Identify Before We Treat
Noise at dawn is squirrels, not mice. Getting the species right first saves weeks of the wrong work.
No Bait Inside Occupied Homes
Rodenticide indoors means animals dying in wall voids and ceilings. We trap inside and keep bait outside in tamper-resistant stations.
Local Rodent Control for South Brunswick Property Owners
We are a pest control company working across Middlesex County, and South Brunswick is one of the places we are called to most often. What follows is what we actually know about rodent control here — the building types, the conditions that drive it, and the local rules — rather than a page of stock copy with a place name dropped into it.
If something is turning up in your South Brunswick home or business, call (862) 256-6829 for an inspection. You will get an honest read on what is there and a written estimate before anything is scheduled.
South Brunswick, NJ at a Glance
South Brunswick sits in Middlesex County at roughly 92 feet above sea level, was first settled around 1778 and is home to about 47,043 people. Those numbers matter more than they look: density, elevation and age of the housing stock are the three things that decide which pests a place actually gets.

House Mouse, Norway Rat or Something Else
In suburban and mixed housing the identification question is broader, because the candidates include animals that are not rodents in the pest-control sense at all.
House mouse (Mus musculus) is the overwhelming majority of calls. Droppings 3 to 6mm, dark, pointed at both ends; passes a 6mm gap; nests in insulation, garages and stored boxes; light scratching after dark.
Norway rat (Rattus norvegicus) concentrates near commercial strips, restaurant refuse, rail lines and construction rather than spreading evenly through residential streets. Droppings 18 to 20mm with blunt ends, passes a 13mm gap, burrows, ranges 30 to 50 metres or more.
Deer mouse and white-footed mouse turn up on properties backing onto woodland β bicoloured, white underneath, larger eyes and ears β and are seasonal intruders rather than permanent residents.
What is often not a rodent at all: noise in the attic at dawn and dusk is usually grey squirrel, because mice are nocturnal and squirrels keep daylight hours. Heavy slow movement overhead at night is more likely raccoon. Getting this wrong wastes weeks, since that work is trapping and one-way-door exclusion rather than rodent work.
How They Get Into a House and Why They Stay
The working numbers are 6mm for a mouse, 13mm for a rat, and in detached housing the entry points are predictable and mostly near ground level.
- The attached garage. The most reliable autumn entry in this stock: a worn bottom seal, failed corner gaskets, then straight up the common wall. People see a mouse in the kitchen and look for a kitchen entry; it came in through the garage weeks earlier.
- Utility penetrations at the foundation and rim joist, and around the dryer vent, hose bib and air-conditioner line set.
- The sill plate and rim joist, especially on older houses where the sill sits close to grade.
- Balloon-framed walls running sill to attic β a mouse entering at grade is heard on the top floor, so treating the attic accomplishes nothing.
- Crawlspace vents and access hatches with damaged or missing screening, and roofline gaps a squirrel has already opened.
In suburban housing the food is often birdseed, pet food stored in the garage or fallen fruit, and the harborage is a woodpile, dense ground cover against the foundation, or a shed on skids.

Trapping, Exclusion and What Actually Ends It
Exclusion is the only permanent step. Trapping removes the animals present; sealing decides whether more arrive. A quote with no exclusion in it is a quote for an ongoing service rather than a solution.
Interior: trapping, not bait. Rodenticide inside an occupied house means animals dying in wall voids and ceilings nobody can reach. Interior work is snap and multi-catch traps against walls, on grease trails, at right angles to the run, in real numbers β a dozen, not two.
Exterior: burrows and harborage. Where there is genuine rat activity, bait goes in tamper-resistant stations placed on active burrows and runs, and burrows get collapsed afterwards so that reopening is visible evidence rather than guesswork.
What is in the bait. Second-generation anticoagulants β brodifacoum, bromadiolone, difethialone, difenacoum β were removed from general consumer sale by the EPA's rodenticide risk mitigation decision and restricted to professional use in tamper-resistant stations. That is why the products left on the hardware shop shelf are the weak ones, and much of why do-it-yourself rat control fails. It also matters for secondary poisoning: a rodent carrying these stays toxic to whatever eats it β hawks, owls, cats, dogs. Bromethalin is a neurotoxin rather than an anticoagulant, acts faster and has no antidote. Ask which class is being used and where it is going.
Sealing materials. Copper mesh, hardware cloth and mortar work. Steel wool rusts out within a season, and expanding foam alone gets chewed straight through β it only works over a metal backing.
A garage door needs a genuine seal to the slab and intact corner gaskets, not a strip of foam tape.
Garages, Crawlspaces and Attics β and What Rodents Cost You
Three spaces account for most of the work, and each behaves differently.
The garage is usually both the entry and the food source β pet food, birdseed and grass seed in bags. Moving those into sealed hard containers costs nothing and removes the reason to come in. Then seal the door properly.
The crawlspace is harborage β exposed soil, damaged vent screens, a hatch that does not close, insulation to nest in. A crawlspace with rodent activity nearly always also has a moisture problem, and the two get solved together or not at all.
The attic is where people notice the problem and usually the wrong place to work β if the walls are balloon-framed it is simply where the noise arrives. Contaminated insulation loses performance and has to be replaced; it cannot be cleaned.
What it costs you. Mouse urinary protein is a recognised indoor allergen and a documented asthma trigger. Chewed wiring inside a wall or attic is a real ignition risk. And never dry-sweep or vacuum droppings in a crawlspace or attic β dampen, bag and remove instead.

Rodent Control β Common Questions
We hear it in the attic but sealed the attic. Why is it still there?
Because the entry is probably at ground level. In balloon-framed houses the wall cavity runs uninterrupted from the sill plate to the attic, so an animal entering near grade arrives upstairs without ever crossing a room. The work belongs at the sill and rim joist. If the noise is at dawn and dusk rather than after dark, it is more likely squirrels, which is a different job entirely.
We have a dog. What should we know?
Tell us in advance. Interior work should be trapping rather than bait so there is nothing toxic within reach, and exterior bait goes in tamper-resistant stations secured to the ground. Be aware of secondary poisoning as well: a dog that finds and eats a poisoned rodent is exposed to the rodenticide, which is a specific reason to ask what class is being used.
Does having mice mean the house is dirty?
No. What decides it is the age and construction of the building, the condition of the garage door and foundation penetrations, and what is stored where. Meticulously kept houses with a worn garage seal get mice every autumn.
Pest Pressure in South Brunswick, NJ
South Brunswick covers about forty-one square miles and contains two things that sit oddly together: quiet suburban and semi-rural residential sections, and one of the largest warehouse and distribution belts in central New Jersey.
That logistics district β concentrated around Dayton, the Route 130 and Route 1 corridors and the rail line β is the dominant rodent driver. Millions of square feet of slab-built warehousing with continuous dock doors, pallet and trailer storage, and refuse handling at industrial scale provides food and harborage across a very large area with no residential occupier, and pressure moves outward from it into the nearest neighbourhoods.
The residential sections are separate and different. Kendall Park and Monmouth Junction are settled post-war suburbia; Kingston, Deans and the western side toward the Millstone are older, wooded and semi-rural, with the Delaware and Raritan Canal and Millstone River corridor bringing wetland, a substantial deer population and heavy tick pressure along the wooded edges.
South Brunswick uses ZIPs 08852 at Monmouth Junction, 08824 at Kendall Park and 08810 at Dayton.
What South Brunswick Buildings Are Made Of
Mostly detached post-war single-family β Kendall Park in particular is a large, coherent 1950s and 1960s subdivision of ranches and splits on quarter-acre lots with attached garages and full basements or crawlspaces. That housing has the standard set of entry points: the garage door seal and corner gaskets, utility penetrations at the foundation and rim joist, and crawlspace vents with damaged screening.
Foundation planting is now sixty or seventy years mature on much of it, holding moisture against the siding and burying the inspection strip where termite mud tubes would be visible.
The western and older sections add larger properties on acreage, some with fieldstone foundations, outbuildings and barns, where the rodent harborage is in the outbuildings rather than the house.
Newer townhouse and multi-family development has gone in along the corridors, with attached construction and shared attic and wall voids running over several homes.
The warehouse belt is slab construction with large loading openings and dock levellers that function as permanent rodent doors unless the seals are maintained.
The Calls We Get Most in South Brunswick
Rats in the residential blocks nearest the distribution belt. Off-property harborage at industrial scale; the return comes from exclusion rather than repeated treatment.
Rodents at dock doors and in pallet storage through the logistics district.
Mice through attached garages each autumn.
Ticks along the canal, the river corridor and wooded lot lines.
Termites where planting has built up against the foundation, and in crawlspaces with exposed soil.
Attic wildlife β squirrels and raccoons through soffit returns on the wooded western side.
Mice moving between attached townhouse units through the shared attic void.
Local Rules and Who to Call in South Brunswick
South Brunswick's health department and code enforcement handle property maintenance complaints, including commercial refuse-handling conditions β worth using if your rodent pressure is coming from a distribution property rather than a neighbour, because that is enforceable and treating your own yard repeatedly is not a fix. The Middlesex County mosquito control programme treats standing water and catch basins on public land at no charge. New Jersey regulates nuisance wildlife handling, and bats cannot be excluded during the summer maternity season. For transactions, the wood-destroying insect inspection is the NPMA-33 form, covering visually accessible areas only β and a crawlspace or a finished basement substantially reduces what can be seen.

South Brunswick — Local Questions
We live near the warehouses and the rats never really stop. Is treating our house pointless?
Not pointless, but change what you are paying for. Where the harborage and food are at industrial scale you will not eliminate the population from one address, so a treatment-only contract becomes a subscription. The return is in exclusion β sealing the building so what is outside stays outside, closing gaps at grade, real door sweeps, and crawlspace and foundation work. Alongside that, refuse-handling conditions at the commercial properties are enforceable through township code enforcement, and a written complaint naming the property is the lever on the food source.
How seriously should we take ticks on the western side?
Seriously. The canal and river corridor supports a substantial deer population and a lot of woodland edge. Work the transition zone rather than the whole garden: a three-foot wood chip or gravel barrier between lawn and woodline, leaf litter cleared at the edge, lawn kept short, seating and play equipment moved off the boundary, and treatment of that edge rather than a blanket spray. Nymphs in late spring and early summer are the dangerous stage and are close to invisible.
